FAQ
Q: What search engines are most used in Japan?
Yahoo! Japan is number 1. Google Japan is number 2. Figures on their market shares found on the net vary, and accuracy is debatable. From the traffic analysis of our clients’ websites, we estimate the shares to be about 50-55% for Yahoo! Japan and 35-40% for Google. Bing is distant number 3 with about 2% of the share as of July 2010.
One of the reasons for Yahoo! Japan’s popularity is its well-branded name recognition and its position as a portal website that offers a wide range of additional services in addition to search, including shopping, auction and blog hosting. While Google Japan tends to be favored by the heavy Internet users, Yahoo! Japan seems to appeal to a wider range of population in the country.
